Creativity and innovation are precursors to adaptive change. Low vitality in these areas is an indication that the organization contains forces that constrain or mute productivity or progress. Removing these organizational constraints can liberate creativity and serve to spark innovation. Of course, this is typically much more complex and difficult to accomplish than anticipated at first blush. Interestingly, the recipe for sparking innovation is remarkably similar to creating adaptive change – 1. Break from the Status Quo, 2. Bring the Outside In, and 3. Create Breakthrough Collaboration.
